So.. this is my first blogging experience, hopefully I can somehow manage to continue to write some interesting thoughts and opinions for you guys, so I might as well explain why I am here!
The rowing team at Rothesay High School was deemed to dangerous to continue as a school sport because of insurance issues.
Now, the argument for it is that people could drown or get hurt and fall in the water (and drown). Not wearing life jackets in rowing seems to irk people or rub them the wrong way but it is not, and never was a part of the sport.
Considering the track record of our club (Kennebecasis Rowing Club) for accidents, minor injuries such as slide bite and little cuts from handling boats, nothing of note has happened in the past 140 years.
In fact our town has a long rich history of rowing, you could say we are a bit of a powerhouse of the Atlantic provinces. The town of
Renforth where many of our rowers come from was named after James Renforth (a member of the challenging British team who died of heart failure during a rematch against our famed
"Paris Crew").

So really were just trying to get our team back at our school, this year it is just me (a student) leading the team, does it seem fair that we should be denied this great sport that has sent many people from our home town to participate in or win at the Olympics, National Championships, Royal Canadian Henley, Royal Henley, be inducted in the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame? Or develop the values and appreciate the hard work that goes into rowing which has lead many of our athletes to go on to study at ivy league schools or become community leaders.
